Ministry Mission Statement

Choir ministry's mission is to glorify God through His gift of music. Our mission is to, first and foremost, praise Him through music that expresses God's truth through word, voice, and heart. For what positions are we looking for more volunteers? We are always looking for singers, piano accompanists, and other instrumentalists. Currently, we are especially in need of sopranos and altos.

What is your role as a volunteer?

Each week, we sing an offertory piece during worship service as well as sing the post-benediction anthem. Occasionally, we will have a vocal soloist or instrumentalist perform. Choir meets once a week, right before service for rehearsal. Additionally, each year there are special events that we do as a choir. In the past, we have done caroling at people's houses and apartment lobbies, and have gone on trips to NYC to Lincoln Center and Broadway to watch vocal shows or concerts.

What qualities and specific skills do you need?

Contrary to popular belief, the ability to sing well is NOT mandatory. We are looking for anyone who just loves to sing for the Lord, regardless of ability. Any prior choral experience is a definite plus, but not needed. We are also looking for accompanists and other instrumentalists. If you are able to play piano, you are highly encouraged to join choir as well. You will not be required to play every week but your availability to accompany would be greatly appreciated. If you play any other instruments (flute, violin, etc.), you are encouraged to join as well, since we occasionally have instrumental accompaniment to our music, or instrumental soloists for offertory.

Why join this ministry?

If you love to sing or play music and love to praise God through voice or instrument, then join! This ministry provides not only an outlet for musical expression, but also provides an opportunity to improve your musical abilities through challenging music and through small group voice lessons with a classically-trained vocal instructor through the Rutgers Community Music Program.

How much time do I need to commit?

We meet weekly on Sunday an hour and a half before service. There will be additional activities throughout the year that may require a few extra hours, such as Christmas caroling.
