A Brief History of Praise

In 1993, a small group of students from Rutgers University gathered to meet at Chanyang Presbyterian Church (later changed to Praise Presbyterian Church, which is simply a translation of the Korean word "chanyang"). This small band of students spoke some Korean but was much more comfortable with English and with the help of the church formed an English-speaking college group.

As the college group began to grow, it was decided that as soon as the group was able, it would be encouraged to become an independent congregation while maintaining ties with the Korean-speaking congregation. This shared vision was kept alive as the group steadily grew from a college group ministry to an English-language ministry made up not only of college students, but also of post-graduates, working professionals, and increasingly, married couples with children.

On September 28, 2003, the dreams and prayers were all answered as Praise Presbyterian Church (EC) was organized by the Eastern Korean Presbytery in a joyful celebratory service.
